he President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will pay a state visit to Seoul to participate in the inaugural Central Asia – Republic of Korea Summit, TDH reports.

The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on preparations for the President’s state visit to the Republic of Korea and his participation in the first Central Asia – Republic of Korea Summit during a government sitting on September 11.

As the Deputy Prime Minister noted, bilateral trade and economic cooperation with the Republic of Korea is currently developing actively. Seventeen investment projects involving Korean companies are registered in Turkmenistan. Among major completed projects are the sulfur purification complex at the Galkynyş gas field, the gas-chemical complex for polyethylene and polypropylene production in Kiyanly, and others. A number of projects involving leading Korean companies are currently being successfully implemented.

During the state visit of the Head of Turkmenistan to Seoul, it is planned to sign a series of interstate, intergovernmental and interagency documents aimed at strengthening the bilateral relations in areas such as economy, investment, transport, logistics, the chemical industry, infrastructure, industrial construction, the environment, science and others.

It was also noted that cooperation with Seoul is successfully proceeding within the framework of the Central Asia – Republic of Korea Forum, established in 2007. Until 2024, the forum operated through the format of meetings at the foreign minister level. The participation of the President of Turkmenistan in the first Central Asia – Republic of Korea Summit will mark another important step in the development of multilateral cooperation.

After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the Republic of Korea is one of Turkmenistan’s close partners, with whom productive relations are consistently developing. In this regard, the Head of State instructed to make proper preparations for the forthcoming visit and participation in the summit, the primary goal of which is to expand multifaceted cooperation.
