Energy and regional cooperation are the focus of Turkmenistan and the Benelux Union

    14 Aug 26

A meeting was held in Brussels between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan Sapar Palvanov and the Secretary-General of the Benelux Union Ariadne Petridis. During the talks, the sides discussed prospects for further developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Benelux countries, as well as between Central Asia and Europe. Special attention during the meeting was paid to the dynamically developing political and economic relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union. In order to facilitate the increasing frequency of official meetings and high-level visits, the Turkmen side proposed joint consideration of mutually exempting diplomatic and service passport holders from visa requirements. The Secretary-General expressed readiness to continue dialogue in this direction. The interlocutors also discussed opportunities for sharing the Benelux Union's extensive experience in regional cooperation and institutional interaction. The Benelux side confirmed its readiness to share its accumulated expertise with Central Asian states in areas such as security, energy, climate, and the economy. Furthermore, Ambassador Sapar Palvanov shared information regarding a major international equestrian event scheduled for September 4–6, 2026, at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in Kronenberg, Netherlands, and invited representatives of the General Secretariat of the Benelux Union to attend the event.
