Hungary sees Turkmenistan as a reliable partner in the energy secto

Hungary counts on Turkmenistan as a reliable partner in the energy sector, said Adam Stifter, Deputy State Secretary for Eastern Relations Development of Hungary. He made this statement at the conclusion of a meeting of the Turkmen-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held in Ashgabat.

“In the energy sector, we count on Turkmenistan as a reliable partner,” Stifter said in a video comment posted on the website of the Turkmenistan Information Center.

“Hungary depends on natural gas imports from various countries, so we also look to Turkmenistan with great hope and hope that Turkmenistan will become a supplier of gas to Europe, more specifically to Hungary, in the near future,” Stifter noted. 

In the same video, Peter Holics, Hungary's Deputy State Secretary for EU Affairs, spoke about the prospects for cooperation in the energy sector.

“Today we discussed issues related to natural gas trade between Turkmenistan and Hungary, potential projects for the exploration and development of hydrocarbons on the Caspian Sea shelf, as well as joint initiatives on renewable energy sources in the future,” Holica said. 

He stressed that “this meeting has yielded excellent results, as we have managed to identify the basic principles on which these areas can develop further.” 

Holica also noted that further steps to expand cooperation in the energy sector are planned to be discussed in Octobe.

“We are grateful for the invitation to the International Energy Forum, which will be organized by the government in October this year. We will definitely try to participate in this event to discuss further steps and opportunities for expanding energy cooperation both in Turkmenistan and in the region as a whole,” Holica said.
