Budapest is counting on gas supplies from Turkmenistan

    03 Oct 25

Hungary views Turkmenistan as a potential natural gas supplier and hopes to establish supplies in the near future, according to Ádám Stifter, Undersecretary of State for Eastern Affairs at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"We see Turkmenistan as a reliable partner in the energy sector. Considering that Hungary imports gas from various sources, we have high hopes for Turkmenistan and expect it to soon begin supplying gas to our country," the International Information Center of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Television, Radio Broadcasting, and Cinematography quotes him as saying.

Hungary's Under-Secretary of State for EU Affairs, Peter Holicza, also discussed the prospects for an energy partnership. He said the parties explored gas trade opportunities, discussed joint projects to develop Caspian hydrocarbon fields, and discussed prospects for green energy development.

Holic noted that the energy dialogue is scheduled to continue in October. "We gratefully accepted the Turkmen side's invitation to the International Energy Forum, which will be held in October. The Hungarian delegation will participate in the event to discuss new opportunities for deepening energy partnerships, both bilaterally and regionally," the diplomat emphasized.

The meeting of the intergovernmental commission took place in the Turkmen capital on September 29-30.
