Turkmenistan, EU Discuss Progress of TAPI, TAP Energy Projects

    12 Sep 25

Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atajan Movlamov, held talks on Thursday in Islamabad with Raimundas Karoblis, the European Union’s representative to Pakistan, to discuss progress on major regional energy projects — the TAPI gas pipeline (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India) and the TAP power transmission line (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan).

According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Pakistan, the Turkmen side provided updated information on the current stage of construction of both the pipeline and the power line, which are expected to form the backbone of regional energy cooperation.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s significant energy potential and emphasized the opportunity to deepen international partnerships in the energy sector.

The parties also discussed prospects for broader cooperation between the European Union and the Central Asian states, including joint efforts to promote sustainable development in the region.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the diplomats agreed to continue the dialogue and further develop mutually beneficial cooperation.

Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are jointly implementing several large-scale trilateral projects in energy and infrastructure aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and stimulating economic development. Among these are the TAPI gas pipeline and the TAP high-voltage transmission line, which is designed to ensure a stable electricity supply to participating countries.
