Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan Boost Caspian Port Cooperation to Strengthen Logistics Ties

    19 Jun 25

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are placing increased emphasis on the strategic use of Caspian Sea ports — including Baku, Alat, and Turkmenbashi — to deepen transport and logistics cooperation, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov said Wednesday at the opening of a bilateral forum in Baku, as reported by news agency Report.az on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, titled “Multifaceted Cooperation Between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan: Achievements and Prospects,” Sharifov noted that ties between the two countries, rooted in shared historical values, continue to grow steadily.

“On June 9, we marked the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Today, our bilateral cooperation is strengthening under the leadership of our heads of state and based on the strategic partnership agreement,” he said.

The deputy foreign minister also highlighted the importance of the Caspian Sea as a vital link connecting Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, especially in the absence of a shared land border.

In 2024, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan recorded a significant increase in bilateral trade, with total turnover approaching $400 million.
