Turkmenistan, EU Experts Discuss Reducing Methane Emissions In Energy Sector

    11 Jun 25

Experts from Turkmenistan and the European Union gathered on June 4 for a hybrid workshop in Ashgabat to discuss the new EU Methane Regulation (2024/1787), aimed at strengthening efforts to monitor, report, and reduce methane emissions across energy supply chains, according to the European Union.

The workshop focused on innovative tools such as satellite-based monitoring, the United Nations Environment Programme’s Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0), and the IMEO-MARS platform. These technologies are designed to increase transparency and drive environmental responsibility in the energy sector.

Organized under the “EU for a Green Turkmenistan” project, funded by the European Union and the Federal Foreign Office and implemented by GIZ, the event emphasized the importance of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in advancing climate action and sustainable development.

Methane reduction in the energy industry is a critical step toward a greener future due to methane’s potent impact on global warming.
