ADB Expands Support for Sustainable Energy and Infrastructure in Turkmenistan

    26 May 25

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will support the city of Arkadag. As part of this cooperation, a $1 million solar energy storage project is planned, along with the development of roadmaps for sustainable energy, Arthur Andrysiak, the bank’s Country Director in Turkmenistan, said during a session focused on sustainable development and infrastructure modernization at the International Forum “White City Ashgabat, which was held on May 24–25 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

According to official Turkmen media, Andrysiak noted that ADB is actively engaged in investment projects across Turkmenistan, with one project completed and two others currently underway. The bank’s strategy includes sovereign financing, development of advisory services, and integrated solutions aimed at promoting sustainability.

ADB places special emphasis on renewable energy projects. The bank has extensive experience in implementing solar energy initiatives, including support for pilot projects aimed at its adoption in Turkmenistan.

Additionally, ADB is actively engaged in sustainable water resource management, backing programs focused on the efficient use and storage of water.

These initiatives are part of ADB’s broader strategy to promote green growth and strengthen infrastructure resilience in the region.

The State Committee for the Construction of the City of Arkadag under the President of Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Arkadag on May 17, 2025.
