Ashgabat hosted the International Conference TESC 2025 on Environmental Aspects in Energy

On June 5, World Environment Day, Ashgabat hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Environmental Aspects of Implementing Innovative Technologies in the Development of Hydrocarbon Fields" TESC 2025. The forum brought together representatives of government agencies, major energy companies, international organizations and academic communities. Maksat Babayev, State Minister and Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmengaz," spoke at the first session of the conference. In his report, he emphasized that Turkmenistan pays special attention to environmental issues, particularly the reduction of methane and associated gas emissions during the development of oil and gas fields. The Minister reminded that the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, announced the country’s accession to the Global Methane Pledge and confirmed further cooperation with international organizations and partner states within projects aimed at the practical implementation of its terms. Babayev also noted Ashgabat’s initiatives to open a Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia, as well as previously proposed suggestions for the development of the UN Water Strategy, the UN Special Program for the Aral Sea, and the preservation of the Caspian Sea ecosystem. Emphasizing Turkmenistan’s role as a major hydrocarbon supplier, he stated that the country possesses a powerful and sustainable resource base, opening vast prospects for cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. As an example, the "Galkynysh" field was cited — the largest onshore natural gas field in the world with reserves estimated at 27.4 trillion cubic meters (including the adjacent Yashlar and Garakel deposits). This field is becoming a symbol that energy can be not only powerful but also environmentally responsible. The sessions continued with speeches and presentations from leaders of international companies, including Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), as well as representatives from Eni, PETRONAS, GaffneyCline, Galf Perlite, Tegre, and other major energy corporations. The main message from the speakers was the necessity of maintaining an energy balance, the inevitability of industry development, and the urgent need to implement new technologies, including artificial intelligence. The important role of robotics was highlighted in a presentation by PETRONAS representative Nurhaslina Bt Abu Samah. The conference gathered more than 400 delegates from 26 countries, demonstrating growing international interest in environmental protection issues. The work of TESC 2025 included participation by leaders of national and international oil and gas companies, representatives of international organizations, as well as major financial institutions and research centers.
