Joachim FRITZ graduated from the University of Konstanz (Germany) with a master’s degree in administrative affairs in 1994. He has been working at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH for over 25 years. From 1998 to 2002 he worked as a Planning Officer for Local and Urban Development in Eschborn, Germany. From 2002 to 2005, as an Advisor and Deputy Programme Manager to the Decentralization and Municipal Development Programme in Guatemala. From 2005 to 2007, as a Planning Officer in the Division: Reform of State and Society in Eschborn, Germany. From 2007 to 2013, as a Head of Governance Support Programme; Focal Area Coordinator for the German Cooperation in the field of Governance and Violence Prevention; Coordinator of GIZ Safety and Security Team; Deputy to the GIZ Country Director in South Africa. From 2013 to 2015, as a Head of Programme: Modernization of the State and Public Administration; Deputy to Country Director; Security Coordinator, GIZ Ecuador Chairperson of the GIZ Sector Network Democracy and State Reforms in Latin America and Caribbean (REDLAC) in Ecuador. From 2015 to 2019, as a Director of Sector Division, Governance and Conflict within the Sector Department in Eschborn, Germany. From 2019 to 2022, as a GIZ Country Director in Kyrgyzstan. Since 2020 he has been working as GIZ Coordinator in Turkmenistan and since 2022 as GIZ Country Director in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Speaks German, English, Spanish, French and has a basic level of Russian.
